    That is some SERIOUS dampening!
    God damn textbook work!

The current Swedish market does not include MLV boards at all. I bet most ppl havent heard of them. I ran into a dampening 'blog' or something along those lines basically prescribing a dampening work preetty darn close to yours.

Btw, did u notice any of the hazardous "stench" form the MLV?

thanks! Hope it'll be worth it! It's the first time I've really gone for it, last car was just loads CLD tiles in the doors (bit too much! Was probably bullet proof in the end!!) but figured what the hell and ripped the car apart (missis was not happy!!)

No smell to this stuff, the silent coat smells more tbh. There's another product called Techsound 50 which some guys use back here and that's got a bit if a whiff to it but nothing major.

I've just checked and CAD don't seem to sell MLV anymore? I think the stuff I bought was around £20 per square meter? There's other mlv available though which sounds identical to the Dodo MLV but a fair bit cheaper at around £6/7 per square meter plus postage!! Thread below:

      http://www.talkaudio.co.uk/ipb/index...324-cheap-mlv/

Maybe they can ship a pallet to Sweden? Heavy stuff though, I bought 10 sheets and the box weighed a ton!

        Cool!
Either one or three rolls generated the same freight - £24.
Might be something to take into consideration. I've not decided really on my own door setup, which might render this type of investment useless, or excellent :P

Really ambitious work there! And good documentation, we love pictures!

Now, if you could just move the steering wheel and pedals to the correct side of the car, that'd be great.

Re: Saab 9-3 Aero from the UK

I've got an idea about removing the carpet, why not take a long knife and cut just next to the centerconsole? The cuts will be covered by the panels anyway so it sould'nt be visible when done. Nice to see that dampeningwork! I'm looking forward to hear from you about the difference since i haven't done anything to the floor in my car, didn't think it would do any mayor difference.

Oh and about that connector under the chair, it's the same in all cars wheter you have manual/electric seats, heater etc... But in your car it's just for the seatbelt.

Btw, what type of materials are u planning to use for dampning the floor?
Is it CCF + MLV based all over?

Re: Saab 9-3 Aero from the UK

                Thanks for the kind words

Yeah I the end I cut the carpet under the console, really wanted to avoid it but no chance without stripping the console down (unless there's another way?) too late now anyway!

It's made a bit of a difference but not as dramatic as the doors, they really quietened outside noise. I don't think ill do the floor again as it took a couple days and if I'm honest, wasn't a massive decrease in sound. I'll probably just do the doors & boot next time....especially if it's another 9-3! The carpets got a decent amount of foam under there so it's pretty good.

I'll update this later (loads more pics!!) but basically did the floor the same as the doors- CLD then CCF then topped with MLV. Hate to think how much weight I've added = made the car a bit slower! (20t tune can't come quick enough!)

Just as i tought then, it´s not worth the job to do the floor. The wheelwells on the other hand, there's something i think will be worth some dampening! Except for the doors which you also discovered made a huge difference, and the roof.

                    Better update this!

                    Deadening the rear

I've only got a few CLD sheets left and mainly the thicker stuff, so on the large open areas I've used this then any complicated or curved areas used the thinner 2mm stuff. CCF I've just used the 3mm stuff.

                    CCF on top

                        MLV down!!

I've just taped this to the CCF, ill then overlap it when I deaden the front

And that's as far as I've gone...

I just need to check how far across this MLV has to go for 100% coverage, not sure if it needs to go right to the door sill or if its enough like this?

Fronts...There's a load of felt on top

Trim needs to come apart again to get the carpet out...not happening

This is as far as I can get the carpet out!!!

So properly deadening this looks a no go, plus I've still got to run the wires (job for tomorrow)

Also took the chance to look at this fibre optics nonsense....

                            Ash tray came out first

                            Then the Heater controls

Then the CD player & control thingy came out

After a LOT of swearing & cursing Saab trying to separate both units & rounding off 3 screws (panic attack thinking ill never be able to fit the Pioneer!!!!!!!!!!!) I figured out the CD player just slides out by pushing the clips apart each end of the player

CD player out and here's the fibre optic connector.

So I'm guessing I just need to loop this one?

I think ill be getting a proper connector for this...

Re: Saab 9-3 Aero from the UK

No deadening today...and no carpet cutting! So I figured I'd take a look at the headunit swap...

Same as yesterday, first off was the ash tray then the heater panel so your left with the EHU.

At each side there's a long thin metal tab that keeps both units in place, prise each side open a bit and it slides out so far

Then pull both tabs inwards to get the unit out

At the back of the unit there's a big connector

Pull the tab upwards then the latch is released and plus down

Underneath that there's the fibre optic plug for the CD player, push the tab down and pull it off

One more to get off then the unit can come out, pull the tab down and off it comes

Re: Saab 9-3 Aero from the UK

With the cables disconnected its miles easier to work!

The CD players attached to the cage by 2 clips, get something thin each side, gently prise them out then the player slides out.

                                Standard DIN sized hole

                                Put that to one side...

                                Here's the fibre optic plug

The fibre optic cables are in a separate plug inside this one, push the tab in and out it comes

These then have to come out and put to face each other to keep the fibre optic loop working (where the fun starts)

You have to push the blue thing up from the thin side, which then releases both cables from the holder

Then gently pull up on the tab here with a small thin screw driver and this releases the cables

                                Voila!!!

I went through about 6/7 biros here trying to get the correct fit and length but found a retractable pencil best here and used the small inside tube which was a perfect fit. I started off with around an inch length but that didn't work, then measured it so both cables were a few mm away then it worked fine.

Taped up & secure...don't look pretty but it works

I put the ICM and heater back in

Battery back on for the 8th or 9th time! And its all good! Radio works as before, all speakers working fine....so that's done!

Aux in is also still working fine....happy days! (Airbag warning is because the interiors in bits!)
